Good, Bad, and Madness (Strength)

Good, Bad, and Madness - Luke Cyr (43 Handicap)

Poetic genius mere mortal in time
Twisted lyrics from a writer in rhyme
Bare witness to this fancy, passing along
Riddle and feelings, add music it’s song
The bore of the hours that turn into days
Sunlight to darkness we do as we may
Plugging away with quill dipped in ink
Finding the words that others do think
Fill papers with writings deep within soul
For people in mass to praise and to troll
Fun for effect with imaginative intent
Possibly why spared, too maker unsent
Enjoy these ramblings from sinister me
Or move on from words if boredom you see

Discussion

I wrote this when I was out east at Cabot. I was in such a wonderful spot mentally and physically. I wrote this to remind myself of the joy of writing, because I have such a knack for it. It brings me such happiness to write. And a bonus; others truly love my poems.

Within this poem I remind myself that the darkness is still right there, and even though I'm not being affected by it right now, I can show up at any time and I'm never free of it. So what I do is write and hold on to the light as hard as I can, and never take the darkness for granted. It's a poem meant to motivate and to give me strength and to help me right the ship if I ever start to fall off.

My friend Sean says it perfectly, "Luke, if you're not writing, I know something's wrong."
