Ripple Effects Charity Gala: Illuminating the Hidden Struggles of Mental Health
This event has passed - Friday, November 10, 2023
Luke Cyr, the founder of Vision Poems (https://visionpoems.com), the Luke Cyr Foundation and a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, is hosting a charity gala aimed at creating a ripple effect of healing, awareness, and support for those battling the often invisible challenges of PTSD, mental health issues, and the unique experiences faced by active and veteran soldiers and first responders.
About Luke Cyr and Vision Poems
Luke Cyr is not just a poet but a warrior. A retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Cyr served on four operational tours, including three in Afghanistan, before injuries forced him into retirement. During his recovery, Luke found solace in poetry, culminating in the creation of VisionPoems.com. The website is a sanctuary that uses the transformative power of words to spotlight the hidden struggles tied to mental health and PTSD. It was designed in hopes that his poems will help others struggling with mental health to embrace the light.
The Luke Cyr Foundation
The Luke Cyr Foundation was established as a charitable extension of Vision Poems. Luke’s personal mission resonates through the foundation: “To give those who have retreated into the darkness a chance to embrace the light.” Proceeds from donations and the gala directly benefit the Robbie Dean Counselling Center (https://robbiedeancentre.com/) and The Caddie School for Soldiers (https://caddieschoolforsoldiers.com/), institutions that were pivotal in Luke’s own journey towards recovery.
The Value of the Event
The gala, themed around the concept of ‘ripple effects,’ aims to illustrate how one individual’s life can have far-reaching impacts on a community. It offers an opportunity to “Illuminate the Invisible,” spotlighting the often-overlooked battles of mental health. The evening will feature light refreshments, a cash bar, and a unique Ripple Effects Poetry Auction.
